Oraverse-rapidly reverses the effects of numbing.

Technology and Anesthesia

Anesthesia Options

Oraverse

Oraverse is the first & only product of its kind to rapidly reverse the effects of your local dental anesthetic. Talk, smile & drink normally in about half the time.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide (N2O), also known as laughing gas, is inhaled through a mask worn over the nose. The gas helps a patient relax and reduces the gag reflex. Many of our patients who experience some anxiety in the dental chair find nitrous oxide beneficial. Nitrous oxide does not cause the patient to fall asleep, and the patient can drive home independently after the appointment.

IV Sedation

(New Service Offered!)
For our anxious patients, when nitrous oxide just isn’t enough, Dr. Smith is now offering a new service, IV sedation or twilight sleep.  Dr. Amy Barricklow will come to our office and administer the sedation for our patients over 8 years of age.  If you have any questions regarding this service please give our office a call at 419-332-5407.

Oral Sedation

Many people delay needed dental care because of anxiety or fear. These patients may benefit from conscious oral sedation. If you are a candidate for conscious sedation, Dr. Smith will give you a pill to take one hour before your appointment. The pill will quickly relax and calm you. You will need a driver that day. We will monitor your vital signs while you relax completely – may even dozing off - during treatment. You will be able to talk to us when necessary, but most likely won’t remember your appointment. Conscious sedation calms anxious patients and allows any patient to complete multiple treatments, with less stress, in just one appointment.

Technology

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera projectsimages from inside your mouth onto a chairside monitor. The detailed images help us examine your mouth, teeth, and dental work for accurate diagnosis. Dr. Smith uses the images on the monitor to point out areas of concern and to clearly explain and illustrate your treatment options.

Air Abrasion

We often use air abrasion to remove tooth decay. Unlike a drill, air abrasion blasts a stream of compressed air and tiny abrasive particles at the tooth. These particles gently work away decay, and we then suction it away. Usually, patients don’t require numbing agents with this gentle process, because air abrasion emits no vibration, heat, or sound.

Vibraject

No need to fear shots! Many of our patients are uncomfortable with local anesthesia injections. In fact, fear of injections is the number-one worry for most patients. That’s why we offer Vibraject, a system that emits high-frequency vibrations at the site of the injection, effectively masking pain and discomfort.

Digital X-rays

Digital X-rays are significantly faster than conventional X-rays and reduce radiation exposure by up to 90 percent. The images are immediately viewable on a chairside monitor for review. We can enlarge the images, making it easier for Dr. Smith to show you his findings and explain his recommendations. Digital X-rays are also easy to store and electronically submitted to specialist or insurance providers.

DIAGNOdent

DIAGNOdent is a small, portable laser that examines the surface of back teeth and alerts us with an audible signal when it locates a cavity. It provides a numerical readout indicating the size of each cavity. DIAGNOdent aids in early detection and treatment of dental issues. Early detection is key to maintaining your dental health and stunning smile.
